About the Artist

My life of worldly poverty and artistic freedom began with an evening pottery class in High School. I immediately fell in love with clay, although the poverty-thing turned me off and I attended the University of New Brunswick. While completing my Bachelor of Arts degree, however, I worked as a studio assistant to potter Marilyn Farrell, and my love-affair with clay was renewed.

In pursuit of my passion, I enrolled at the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design in 2003, and graduated in 2005. Following graduation I renovated an old building on my parent's property in rural New Brunswick, and I've worked there ever since.

A juried member of the New Brunswick and Nova Scotia Craft Councils, I am committed to making quality work of beauty and function. I believe strongly that hand-made functional work should be tested to ensure strength and durability.

I began my pottery career working with crystalline glazes, which are very beautiful, but difficult to use on functional pottery. This work was well received, and the demand was high, but the frustrations of the glaze created an unhappy work environment. After two years and many struggles, I decided to leave crystalline behind. Once again I had to pursue my passion, and this time my goal was to create a line of work which would inspire happiness and joy, both in myself and in others.
